Class Descriptions

Ashtanga Flow:

Inspired by the Ashtanga set series of progressive yoga postures, this class is a fusion between the two approaches Vinyasa flow and Ashtanga. It is a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.

Anusara Yoga:

The Anusara yoga practice emphases alignment, "heart opening" postures and the spiritual and meditative aspects of Hatha yoga.  A unique set of concise bio-mechanical alignment principles called the "Universal Principles of Alignment" is applied to each asana, with therapeutic qualities.  It is designed to serve students of any level of experience, age, gender, race or religion.

Budokon Yoga:

Inspired by martial arts, this yoga style is a sequence of slow, controlled movements designed to improve mobility, agility, flexibility and strength.  It translates to "The way of the warrior spirit".

Community class:

Is free, anyone can join in. A wonderful opportunity to come try yoga out for free, especially if finances is the main reason for not practicing yoga at a studio. These classes will be lead by qualified yoga teachers whom would like to gain more teaching experience. This is a chance for new teachers to grow their skills and students to do yoga for free.

Flow Plus:

Is it Vinyasa? … Is it strength? … Dance? For sure all the above- linking body movement with breath. Flowing sequences of breath-synchronized movements is brought into play to transition between sustained postures. This class moves you gently to connect on deep intrinsic movements of body. It is recommended that you join this class regularly to become familiar with an inspiring sequence being done at times in silence.

Hatha Yoga:

This Isha Hatha yoga practice offers a comprehensive set of yogasanas which require no special physical agility or previous experience of yoga. It is a very subtle process enabling the system to sustain higher levels of energy, which in turn straightens out physical and mental imbalances. Hatha Yoga is imparted not only as a physical exercise, but in its full depth and dimension, enabling a person in the most fundamental way, to flower into his ultimate potential.

Jiva-Yasa:

A great combination between Jivamukti and Vinyasa yoga style, presents classical yoga teachings as relevant to one’s life on and off the mat, supported by breath awareness, flowing vinyasa sequences, alignment exploration, hands-on assistance and relaxation..

Kemetic Yoga:

Is an ancient Egyptian system of Yoga enlightenment. It is a healing and regenerative Yoga system that is characterized by a series of geometrically progressive postures. The postures create alignment of the spinal column correcting the defects in the skeletal muscular system and common lifestyle dis-eases such as hypertension, obesity and diabetes. Relieving stress, increasing blood circulation, nutrient and oxygen supply to vital body systems. This allows for a more effective flow of abundant energy throughout the entire body and in the efficient flow of cerebral fluid in the spine.

Kids Yoga:

A playful way to do exercise through storytelling. Physically, it enhances kid’s flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improves. Yoga brings that marvellous inner light that all children have to the surface.

Lunch Time Yoga:

This is the perfect class for those who would like a break in the middle of the day and reset the mind / body to engage the afternoon with fresh vitality. Each class will have aspects of breathing, relaxation and asanas. A well harmonised activity before lunch!

Mindfulness Yoga:

A special class to develop a meditative awareness with emphasis on mindfulness. You are invited on an on-going journey of personal growth through considering some of the yoga philosophies together with slow finer restorative movements of the body with aware "micro" awareness. All levels of yoga experience will find great benefit in this class.

Pilates:

Is seen as an art of controlled movements, which improves flexibility, builds strength, develops control and endurance in the whole body. Pilates' system allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginning to advanced.

Sadhana Class:

Is intended for students with prior experience. These classes include asana, pranayama, kriya yoga and various forms of meditation. The asana are not necessarily advanced but the ability to sit for 30 min is definitely a requirement that you will develop in the class. The ITY course will prepare you but private classes can be arranged to learn the pranayama and kriya techniques.

Vinyasa Open:

This class is accessible to all levels, but some experience is recommended. The word Vinyasa means breath synchronized movement. The flow of movement in a Vinyasa class helps to create body heat. This class is moderately passed and will help build more awareness, strength and flexibility.

Vinyasa Plus:

Experience in yoga asanas is recommended. You will begin to explore your Vinyasa practice on a deeper level. The practitioners will be invited to advance into more challenging variations, but modification will be offered to those not quite ready to take a variation.

Yin Yoga:

Also known as Restorative Yoga works beyond muscle tissue targeting the deeper tissues such as the connective tissue of the joints, ligaments, tendons, bones and deep fascia. This style of yoga holds postures for a longer time and is suitable for all levels experience. It improves the flow of energy (chi) through the meridians of the body improving the functioning of all major organs. It also calms the nervous system. It is suitable for all levels of experience.

Yoga Basics:

Set a solid foundation for your yoga practice at Yoga Basics. This class is not only great for the beginner who wishes to build a strong foundation with basic yoga asanas (postures) and breathing techniques, but also for practitioners who want to revisit the fundamentals of their yoga practice. This class moves at a relaxed pace, with a great deal of awareness to alignment and breath. Modifications to asanas and props usage will be offered as necessary. Students are encouraged to ask questions.

Yoga Play:

Our Thursday evening basic yoga class has grown with its students to a playful focus yoga class, where the first part of the class would remain a Vinyasa style class and the latter part a conscious focus on specific aspects of a primary or secondary yoga asena or group of asenas. The aim is to deepen the understanding, alignment and purpose of an asena to the holistic benefit of the practitioner. A wonderful way to stretch some mental boundaries within a safe space. Available to new and more advanced yogis.

108 Sun Salutations:

We follow a slow flow of Surya Namaskar A, a steady rhythmic movement with breath. A moving meditation creating a hearty sense of camaraderie. The sun salutations will be adapted to the level you feel comfortable with. If you’d like to be part but not sure you want to do the full 108, we would welcome the most needed people to help keep count on a rotation basis.
